Survey on Child Development at Northwestern University
New research on child development reveals that young children do something that we find fascinating: sometimes they will try to fit their bodies into objects that are way too small for them. For example, a child might try to sit in a doll's chair or put on a doll's shoe. Our study is an online survey that will ask you if you have ever seen a child engage in these kinds of behaviors. If... more >>
and new knit shirt
I can't be the first one this has happened to. The silly putty is going in the garbage, but I'd like to rescue the shirt if at all possible, first day he's worn the darned thing. Why is it two different people thought my child needed Silly Putty? I knew he didn't! -Karen, mom to Henry almost 5, who was told not to put the Silly Putty on his clothes!- ... more >>

Advice about summer work?
I'm just posting my thoughts, see what some other parents think about my situation. I'm the single father of my 19mo son. I'm currently finishing off a year of study in University (have finals coming up at end of month), so I'm now off student loans and need to settle into a working for the summer. (I'm currently working at night right now on a 4-5 day renovation project that will gr... more >>

1 yr old tantrums
My 1 yr old DD has recently been throwing what we think are tantrums. Not every night, but on some nights when she's put into her crib after her bottle, she screams at the top of her lungs. It sounds like a tantrum. Last night she did it and we let her go. After about 20 minutes, she settled down and fell asleep so we knew it wasn't anything like needing more milk, dirty diaper, g... more >>
help- need to get 7 month old to take med
Any tips out there on how to get a determined 7.5 month old to take her antibiotic? (ear infection) We are on our 2nd course and she initially would take it from the dropper without too much fuss, but now screams, wiggles, grabs the dropper, shakes her head side to side, clamps her mouth shut and spits out what does make it in. And we have another 9 days to go.... Any help would be grea... more >>
towards children
For those that doubt! --------------------------- My own daughter was fucking boys in her room at age 11 with our blessing and had an "adult" partner when she was 12 (she was lots more mature than they were, actually). Steve > Do you deny saying that you had sex in front of them? -------------- Not at all! And I have another post where he freely admits to having sex with a six... more >>
Bird making its nest over our lamp shade
Not sure the right forum to ask this.. A little bird has made its nest at my doorstep(outside my house) on the lampshade. She (I think) is sitting inside that since many days and not even scared if I go close to her. I am guessing she is sitting on eggs. Wondering if anything I can do to help her? Could I throw some bird food or anything else I could do to make her feel more comfortabl... more >>
OT (sort of) -- investing for kids
For those who are able to put some money away for the future of their young children, what are the investment choices that you have either made or recommend? A grandparent gave our newborn a nest egg, and we're trying to decide in stocks (market correction coming, I read?), mutual funds, CDs, bonds, savingsetc. Except for having only one credit card as a way to avoid debt, I'm... more >>

My wife and I have an 8-year-old son, and a 5-year-old daughter. My wife would like a third. There are times when my wife accepts not having a third, but she'll frequently find herself wanting another. She is worried she'll regret not having another one, and the ones we have are growing some quickly. As much as I try, I can not come to terms with having a third. I try, but for ... more >>
OT: Sticker collecting (www.i-love-stickers.com)
Hello everyone, this is off topic a little, but I figured I would ask it anyways since its on my mind. My daughter likes to collect stickers, but I find them to be expensive when I buy them individually. However, I found a site that has a 'sticker of the month' club and wanted to purchase her a membership. I am wondering if anyone else here is a member or has a child who is a member... more >>
Umbrella Strollers
I'm just curious if anyone knows of a brand/model of umbrella stroller that has longer handles (to accomodate a taller person) than normal? Or even whether or not such an object exists? I currently have a more deluxe stroller with jumbo oversized tires (that don't turn - great for winter, and jogging). It's too big to fit down the aisle on buses, and it's a pain in my arse getting it ... more >>
all pants?
Hi everyone, I'm a bit annoyed at my son's baseball coach for many reasons which I might get into later if anyone is interested. But the one thing I wanted to ask about is this: Are black baseball pants considered to be "softball pants?" We get our uniforms next week -- the league provides a shirt and hat, and you are expected to provide your own baseball pants. We had a pair of ... more >>
